Randy Lee Munk

Randy Lee Munk, 69, passed away on Sunday, August 8th, 2020 at the Hospice House after a 25-year struggle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Randy was born on July 20, 1951 in Sioux Falls, SD, and as an infant was adopted by Milton and Audrey Munk.  He graduated from Dell Rapids High School. 

Randy worked at the Homestake Gold Mine in Lead, SD for 22 years.  He met the love of his life, Karen Thomas, in Deadwood, SD.  They were united in marriage on May 26, 1979 in New Effington, SD.  They were married 41 years.  After living in Lead, they spent 10 years in Hermosa and then moved to their current residence in Rapid City.  

Randy was a member of United Church of Christ in Hermosa.  He enjoyed many happy times at the Senior Center in Hermosa, teaching everyone there to eat dessert first.  

Randy loved water and snow skiing.  He was an avid Chicago Blackhawk fan.  He and Karen spent many days camping in Custer Park.  He was an avid vegetable gardener.  Both he and Karen loved their many dogs, giving them a home full of love and lots of spoiling.  

Grateful for having shared his life is his wife, Karen and dog, Stella; his sister, Colleen of Plankinton, SD; brother, Curt of Washington; birth mother, Vera of Plankinton; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends, Sheila, Arlene, Leroy, and Kathy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the United Church of Christ, Hermosa and Hermosa Senior Citizens.  Services will be held at a later date.
