Norma Jeanne (Thompson) Yost was born October 31, 1936, to William and Irene (King) Thompson at their farm south of Miller. She attended country school at Lott School and Seeman School, alternating years until 8th grade.
Norma married Edwin Yost on August 9, 1953, at the CoonRod farm. Norma and Edwin moved to the Thompson family farm in 1964. Norma and Edwin had two sons, Dennis Eugene born on May 26, 1954, and Terry Allen born on September 3, 1955.
Norma helped Edwin with the farm work. She always had many stories to tell about driving a truck with brakes that gave out and running the windrower for hours. She loved life on the farm and never traveled very far from it and if she did, it wasn’t for very long. Her eyes twinkled with love for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. The things that she will always be remembered for are her caramel rolls, macaroni and cheese, puff balls, ginger snaps, haystack cookies (some with coconut and some without), rice krispy treats, and homemade pancakes. The farm was truly a gathering place for family and friends for pheasant hunting and deer hunting. She loved to see all the hunters and the results of their hunts.
Norma is survived by her grandchildren: Nichole Yost, Rapid City, Amanda (Jeff) Geraets, Dell Rapids, Deidra (Andy) Schlechter, Polo, Serena Yost, Colton, Sabrina (Craig) Heinemann, Dell Rapids, Devron Yost, Canistota, Caleb (Nina) Yost, Miller, Trenton (Beth Simpson) Selting, Sioux Falls, Cole Schnathorst, Aberdeen; great-grandchildren: Cassandra, Weston, Wyatt, Stephenie, Bronc, Kinzleigh, and Gabriella Geraets, Denae (Blaine) Wagner; VonnaGail, Aleah, and Terrell Schlechter, Kailena and Malorie Campbell, Jaslyn and Austin Heinemann, Ayden, Ellie, Cooper Yost, Hayden, Gavin, and Harlow Yost, Roman Rodriguez, Ryker and Bryson Selting; great-great grandchildren: Kayson and Kenna Wagner; daughter-in-law, Cindy Selting, Sioux Falls; sisters and brothers-in-law: Kathy Yost, Ree Heights; Lawrence Bonebrake, Huron: many nieces and nephews; and special neighbors: Ed and Patti Werdel and Bob and Diane Tong.
