Leonard “Leo” Erickson, 81, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at his home. His funeral service was held at 10 am on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home. Visitation with the family present was from 5 pm to 7 pm on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Kahler-Brende Funeral Home. Interment was at the Dell Rapids Cemetery.
Leonard L. Erickson was born on December 9, 1941, the son of Viola and Louie Erickson in Waubay, where he grew up and graduated High School in 1960. Leo’s roofing career brought him to Sioux Falls in 1964 where he met and married Gale Handwerk on September 25, 1965.
In 1970 he started his welding career at Egger Steel, in which he retired from in 2003. In 1979 he moved his family to Dell Rapids, where he got his biggest joy from watching his grandchildren and spreading his sense of humor while gathering with family and friends. He also enjoyed bowling, playing pool, throwing horseshoes and rides in the country.
Leo died peacefully in his sleep. He was 81 and preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, sister Gloria Stanley and brother Don.
Leo is survived by his children, Jason, Dell Rapids, Olynn, Davis, Wayde Handwerk, Sioux Falls and Pamela (Rodney) Kramer, Sioux Falls; four grandgrandchildren, Haley, Brandon, Micha Erickson and Rachel (Jerry) Tammen; three great-grandchildren, Keira, Addie and Parker Tammen; sisters, Joan Thiel, Joyce Moss and Glenda (Tom) Wika; brothers Jake (Eileen), Bill Deb) and Larry (Lisa).
