David Bruce Stene, age 81, of Colton, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at this home. Private family funeral services were held on Saturday, July 11, 2020, at the Minnehaha Funeral Chapel, Colton. Interment will be at a later date at the Minnehaha Lutheran Cemetery, rural Colton.
David was born on November 3, 1938, on the Carson Homestead near Colton, to Elmer Harlen and Gyneth Amanda (Carson) Stene. He grew up near Colton and attended country school and Colton High School. David served two enlistments in the United States Navy in 1956 and 1966. After being honorably discharged, he worked for Tomark Equipment in Sioux Falls for 17 years and for Central States Fire Apparatus for 18 years. He retired in 2004. On July 14, 1984, David married Jeanelle Kramer Nelson. He was a member of the Colton American Legion and First Lutheran Church. David enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanelle, Colton; sisters: Elaine Swier, Crooks, and Ruth (Richard) Harms, Chester, SD; brother, Ervin (Rosie) Stene, El Paso, TX; stepson, Greg (Kim) Nelson, Vermillion; step-grandchildren: Blake Nelson, Vermillion, Analissa Berkemier, Crooks, and Dana Steever, Lennox; and step great-grandchildren: Brayden Berkemier and Masie Steever. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Wallace; and brother-in-law, Harvey Swier.
