Allyn Vere Dorn, age 84, of Brookings, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at home under hospice care.  Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M Monday, August 24, 2020, at Eidsness Funeral Home with burial at 1:00 P.M. at Calvary Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hendricks, MN.  Visitation will be 2-5 P.M. on Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Home.  

Allyn Dorn was born August 17, 1936, to Pearl and Robert (Hoseck) Dorn in Lincoln County, MN.  He grew up on the family farm near Hendricks, MN.  Al was involved with many activities in high school including cross country, track, basketball, football, and band.  He even held the track record in the mile.  

Al worked on the family farm until entering into the United States Air Force where he faithfully served his country for over 20 years.  Al served during the Vietnam War and continued his service until his honorable discharge into retirement on June 30, 1975.  

Al married the love of his life, Janet McStravick on January 26, 1966, in Boston, MA.  After Al’s retirement from the Military, the couple moved to Brookings, SD.  In his retirement years, Al worked for the Coast-to-Coast Warehouse in Brookings.  He had a true passion for showing horses, fishing, hunting, and spending time with family.  He was also known for taking a few pictures of his great-grandchildren.

Al was an AQHA Member, 4-H Member and an Elks Club Member.  Blessed be his memory.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; daughter, Tonya (Mike) Hornback of Volga; granddaughters, Jessica (Clark) Hoyer of Colman, Rachael (Tim) Feekes of Watertown, and Ashely Hallem of Dell Rapids; great-grandchildren, Jennilee Hoyer, Jayda Kenyon, Desirae Hallem, Harlie Auck, Carly Feekes, Hunter Horton, Callyn Hoyer, Ryker Horton, Camdyn Hoyer, Hayes Horton, and Rowan Horton; sisters, Raya (Henning) Hansen of Elkton and Roberta (Jerry) Willert of Hendricks; sister-in-law, Ruth (Frank) Doyle-Almerda of Dorchester, MA; and many nieces and nephews.  A special thank you to Karmen Kracke and Keri Loiseau for their support all through the years.  Al was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Michelle and Allyson.
